Luminaa was created by Dorothy Williams in 2008. As a student at Texas Woman’s University, she designed and sewed a gown for a relative of President Bill Clinton to wear at his Presidential Inaugural Ball in 1997. As a result she has been featured in the Dallas Morning News, the Denton Record-Chronicle and the TV show “Good Morning Texas”. After graduating from Texas Woman’s University in Fashion Design and studying in Paris at the Paris Fashion Institute, she moved to New York to study Museum Studies: Costume & Textiles at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1998. After graduating with her Master’s Degree, Dorothy spent 10 years in the industry working for various companies as a Technical Designer. Her experience taught her the importance of fit and comfort as well as style. “Comfort is the foundation of our garments along with the ability for the pieces to work with any existing outfit the customer may already have in her closet”.
The female body is used as a canvas in which unexpected cuts, movement and rhythm are all essential elements that are incorporated into each piece. Her collection of skirts and dresses has a soft architectural style with timeless beauty, modernity and a bit of edge. The woman who wears Luminaa is intelligent, confident and possesses an understated sexiness. She wants clothes that has a comfortable elegance, accentuates her body in a refined way, and to simply enhance who she is.
